Baby's First Tooth

For the past several weeks, Adriana has been a bit cranky. She cries whenever I leave the room (partially due to Separation Anxiety), she stirs at night which wakes me up, but she's still a happy baby! I figured it was a growth spurt since there was no signs to tell me otherwise. She had a very healthy appetite, normal temperature, etc. She only woke up in the middle of the night twice; once was last Sunday night - thank you loud neighbours at 1am, and the other time was a few weeks ago. She just woke up and cried so I rubbed her back, laid her down again with her blanket and pacifier, turned on her lamb and walked out the room.

Some of the signs a baby is teething are:
  • drooling
  • fussiness/ cranky
  • refusal to feed (usually just bottles or breast)
  • chewing on everything (toys, fingers, nipples!)
  • gum swelling (looks like white blisters where the tooth is coming in)
  • coughing (associated with the overactive saliva glands)
Today it all makes more sense! We have a FIRST TOOTH!!! Its officially poked through on the bottom left side first. The right side is on its way too but hasn't broken through yet. She's done amazingly well considering its her first tooth! If the worse is over now until her molars....we have to be THE LUCKIEST parents ever! Everything has been pretty good considering her circumstance. Shes been a bit fussy but still sleeps for 12hrs at night plus naps. She wakes up as happy as can be: talking to herself, playing with her toys, singing some mornings. You'd think she was having a party in her crib not having teeth coming through!

Adriana, my dear baby girl. You are the most amazing thing to have ever happened to us. Please please stay that way lol Sincerely, Mommy and Daddy!

Does your little one have a first tooth yet?
How was your experience?
How old was your little one when they got their first tooth?

If not, are there any signs you can see?

  1. Sounds like your little girl is handling teething really well - I think the older they are, the better they handle it. My Little Mister has 7 teeth and today I just noticed his 8th on the way (he's 11.5 months old). The first few teeth were really tough on him but now he soldiers on really well - except a couple of tough days here and there. The best part is he's learnt how to sleep through it and only plays up during the day getting a bit clingy and needing a pacifier.
Watch out, though. The first two top teeth are bigger than the bottom ones and can hurt a lot more! It was those ones that gave the Little Mister the most trouble! x

  2. Aww! I bet Little Mister looks adorable with most of his front teeth!! I can't wait to see Adriana with hers :) Her gums are all swollen up top too so they're not far behind the bottom ones.

I hope your little one gets them fast so it doesn't hurt for long! Good Luck!! xo
